Final theses
The chair supervises bachelor's and master's theses that are thematically within the chair's main research areas. A current overview of the topics that are available can be found on this page.
Participation in the colloquium is mandatory for students working on their final thesis. The colloquium includes an introduction to scientific work (including literature research) as well as the mid-term and final presentation of the work and is credited with 1 ECTS.
Application deadlines
You can apply for the currently advertised topics on two deadlines per semester:
Application for the summer semester:
- by 15 March; acceptance or rejection by 22 March at the latest
- by 28 April; acceptance or rejection by 5 May at the latest
Application for the winter semester:
- by 15 August; acceptance or rejection by 22 August at the latest; start of the colloquium in mid-October
- by 31 October; acceptance or rejection by 7 November at the latest; start of the colloquium in mid-November
Applications are welcome at any time, even before the application deadline.
We will do our best to answer you promptly.
You are also welcome to suggest your own topics. Topics are selected in consultation with Professor Krämer or one of the chair's research assistants.

You are also welcome to suggest your own topics, which will then be developed together if they are suitable. To find out more, please visit the pages of the staff at the Chair of Internet and Telecommunications Business for information on their respective research areas and then contact them directly.
In principle, it is also possible to supervise a final thesis in cooperation with a company; however, this is only possible if the chair has previously agreed and developed the topic together with the company and the normal application process has been followed. If you are interested in a final thesis of this kind, you should therefore plan significantly more advance time for the application and organisation and contact us at the beginning of the previous semester.

Due to the limited number of bachelor's and master's theses, a selection process is necessary when assigning topics. The following criteria are decisive for the selection:
- Best-principle, i.e. the best-performing applicants are considered first.
- Hardship cases, i.e. students who only need to write their thesis are asked to indicate this when applying.
- If demand exceeds supply, students from the School of Business, Economics and Information Systems and those who have already attended a lecture or seminar at the chair will be considered first.

Colloquium
In addition to individual supervision by a research assistant, students also take part in a bachelor's or master's colloquium. The aim of the colloquium is to strengthen discourse among students and to make connections between individual topics recognisable. In addition, the basics of scientific work are taught and external lectures are given within the colloquium. This way, students are to gain insights into scientific working methods and discuss current scientific issues in the field of information systems.
Participation is mandatory for all students writing a thesis at the chair.
Research proposal
After selecting a topic, the student prepares an exposé that discusses the problem and objective of their own work and contains an initial outline of the thesis. The exposé should not exceed two pages and must be sent to the supervisor no later than three weeks after starting the thesis.
Mid-term presentation
Each student gives a short presentation in the colloquium, outlining the results obtained so far and the further procedure. The mid-term presentation is not graded.
Students writing a bachelor's thesis give the mid-term presentation after six weeks. Students writing a master's thesis give the mid-term presentation after two months.
Final presentation
After completing the work, a final presentation is given in the colloquium as part of the examination. The presentation is included in the overall assessment of the work. The presentation includes 20 minutes of presentation plus a further 10 minutes of discussion.
