Jan Krämer ist Professor für Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Passau, wo er den Lehrstuhl für Internet- und Telekommunikationswirtschaft innehat. Er ist außerdem Sprecher des von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Graduiertenkollegs 2720 „Digital Platform Ecosystems" an der Universität Passau und Akademischer Ko-Direktor des Centre of Regulation in Europe (CERRE), eines in Brüssel ansässigen Think-Tanks und Mitglied der Europäischen KI Allianz. Darüber hinaus leitet er das Master- und Doppelmasterprogramm in Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Passau.
Krämer hat einen Diplomabschluss in Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen und einen Doktortitel in Wirtschaftswissenschaften, beide vom Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, verbrachte aber auch längere Forschungsaufenthalte und Studienaufenthalte am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) und der Boston University. Zu seinen Forschungsinteressen gehören die ökonomische Regulierung von Telekommunikations- und Internetmärkten sowie digitale Ökosysteme und datengetriebene Geschäftsmodelle. Zu diesen Themen ist er häufig als unabhängiger wissenschaftlicher Experte für staatliche Institutionen wie die Europäische Kommission, das Bundeswirtschaftsministerium oder die Bundesnetzagentur tätig. Er hat zahlreiche Bücher und Artikel in führenden akademischen Zeitschriften in den Bereichen Wirtschaftsinformatik, Marketing, VWL und Rechtswissenschaften veröffentlicht und ist Mitherausgeber mehrerer dieser Zeitschriften, z.B. als Associate Editor für Management Science.
Professor Krämer ist verheiratet und hat zwei Kinder.
